Fedyk, Deryugina: Talks can’t end the Ukraine war, because Russia lies

Following the full-scale invasion by Russia in February 2022, Ukraine has suffered tremendously. Tens of thousands have died, and a quarter of the country’s prewar population has been displaced. Homes, neighborhoods and entire cities have been reduced to rubble. Some question the wisdom of Ukraine continuing to fight back instead of seeking to negotiate with Russia. President Vladimir Putin himself claims he “does not reject the idea of peace talks,” while prominent figures have called for negotiations, possibly involving a settlement to cede occupied territories in exchange for peace.Calls for Ukraine to have such talks rely on an assumption that Russia would negotiate in good faith. But, looking to history as a guide, this assumption is naïve. Russia’s actions over the last 31 years reveal a troubling pattern of frequent lying and breaking international agreements. Negotiations with Russia are therefore futile.Russia agreed to respect Ukraine’s territo...Mayfield crash leaves man fighting for his life

Payton on Wednesday said Bonitto injured his MCL.“Good, optimistic,” Payton said. “I can’t — it’s going to be questionable for this game, he didn’t practice today. But I know he’s feeling better. That’s kind of day-to-day with an MCL. But I know he had a good first week of rehab and recovery.”Bonitto is the Broncos’ leader in sacks (seven) and tackles for loss (11) so far this season. His return would be a big boost for Vance Joseph’s defense whether it happens Sunday night or on New Years Eve against the Chargers. SAN MATEO – Joseph Bey and Jabari Mann spent this fall headlining one of the Bay Area’s all-time great high school teams, leading powerhouse Serra to a fourth consecutive championship in the Central Coast Section’s top division. When pen hit paper in the San Mateo school’s gymnasium on Wednesday, it became official that the duo would be staying close to home for college as the hard-hitting defenders donned San Jose State hats.“What kept me committed there is that it looked a lot like Serra to me,” said Bey. “I’ve talked to a lot of players there, they’ve said that this really is a brotherhood.”Mann had an offer from Oregon State and originally wanted to go somewhere outside of the Bay. But in the end, the three-star linebacker couldn’t pass up a chance to play with his Serra teammate down the road. “That’s my guy, and I love him to death,” Mann said of Bey. “We’ve got that trust from freshman year, and we’ve got four more years.”Bey and Mann were the crown jewels and highest ra...Latest news
